Depends on the manufacturer. I expect most will be able to play dvds (also cds) :thumbs:

Not only will it play them but it enhances the video somehow. So far every regular dvd I have put in it plays. I will try one that I have burned myself in it later on today and let you know how that went.

I was hoping HD-DVD would win, not so much b/c I think it's better, but b/c I don't like Sony, but overall, I"m glad that there's a winner before I get around to HD so I don't have to ride the line.

Played one of my DVD-R's, played it just fine. HDMI out for video and optical out for audio. Looked and sounded great. I guess my next upgrade will be a Audio Receiver with HDMI inputs and outputs.
