Quite the business play, bidding the price up in order to get open access then letting somebody else cut the check

I mean....maybe it wasn't quite on the level, but it doesn't make a lot of people happy (not only Google)

By pushing up the price like they did they forced the open access rule, probably paving the way to better deals

That's called playing within the rules, and they pulled it off rather nicely...
