I'm surprised there is not a thread on this movie.

IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469494/
Trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml2Ae2SIXac

From the IMDB page "A story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business."

Daniel Day-Lewis is a snakey @#$%&ing BASTARD in this movie, I swear there are times you would love to just kick him in the 'nads .... HARD!

Great movie ..... 9!

I guess I never realized there wasn't - of the 5 oscar movies nominated for best picture (Juno, Atonement, Michael Clayton, No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood), this was easily my favorite.

Day-Lewis does such an insane job of playing that character that you just have a blast watchinghim, even if he is terrible person.

The end scene is incredible.

There will be... [assumes posh, childish accent] ... BLOOD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fVDGu82FeQ)!

Grr. Was it someone here who initially posted that link? Huh? Sepra maybe? I need to assign blame, for it's been months now and I simply cannot hear/say the word blood anymore without that lads intonation ringing forth. Daddyyyyy...

As for the movie itself, i fear my hype-induced anticipation may have sullied the experience, and i find I'm leaning towards Term's view... might need to see it again to give it a fair run. Certainly was a thing of beauty, with Day Lewis' performance nothing short of electric. So much so in fact that i have since grown an evil oilman's moustache and switched entirely to speaking in a gruff, Plainview voice.

Except of course in the use of the word "blood"...

no likeable characters to cheer for

That's the second time lately I've heard that comment lately (Sweeney Todd being the other time), and I gotta say...so what?

I don't get why a movie has to have a good guy.

Now the rest of your arguement, about it being boring and such, if you feel that way, I understand not liking the movie, but I've never understood why not having someone to cheer for is grounds to not like a movie.

Maybe it's just me.

I guess maybe if no movies were made w/ a "good guy", I would eventually want one, but I see enough movies that have good guys that when I see a movie that utterly lacks one, it doesn't bother me because it's something different.

I saw this movie on dvd a month ago and thought it was too boring. I honestly gave this movie a 5 out of 10 because alot of it just made no sense. I may watch it again but feel I will have the same response.
