has anyone tried one of these? I was thinking of getting a external dvd drive, then using this for work and classes for note taking. Looks like a impressive little rig.

These mini laptops are becoming increasingly popular these days. Im actually planning on getting the exact one sometime for school this semester. Totally psyched :)

Ive heard good things about them too. I want to get one with a Solid State drive so its less probable of breaking or having problems.

solid state drives I've seen are small!

was given one the other day to fix, this one was only a 8 gig drive with linux on it,all i can say it was a load of crap, get a real notebook not a kids toy:thumbs:

The ones with linux are cheaper (now like 199). Its the Acer eeePC, and have heard of its complications, but it was the first attempt from Acer for small toys :P

windows XP

gig o ram

120gig HD

not exactly a toy... like I said, for work and school, not a feature pc or lappy

probably would run SSSE :P

It has the same specs as my 17" monitor laptop that I used to have, except the Acer one has more ram and is DDR2.

yes it ran Serious Sam flawlessly, so I cant imagine this one not doing so :P

We purchased the Asus Eee PC for Savanna for Christmas. She absolutely loves it! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220452 There are other colors beside the pink one. :D

And here's the Asus version of the 8.9" screen like the Acer one. The customer reviews for it look pretty positive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220441 It's about $20.00 cheaper as well.

I got the SSD version for £170 before crimbo. As standard it's nothing more than a toy - Linpus Linux is naff, as was the 512MB RAM. I upgraded it to 1.5GB (£9), installed Arch Linux & added an 8MB SD card (another £9) for personal files. It's quite usable now, I use it every day for simple things like email & light surfing. As for note taking in class? How fast can you type with one hand?

Thanks Dixie, looks like the Assus has better battery life, the biggest difference besides HD size.

How's the web cam? The Acer doesn't give web cam specs.

Most have 0.3 megapixel. It's surprisingly good too. If only the microphone wasn't crackly it'd be quite useful. :P

I was thinking about getting that one too, PE, but the only thing that hindered me from purchasing it is that it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive.

Her battery life is amazingly good. She can play for several hours at a time. The web cam, I cannot comment on because that is a feature we have not used. She uses her netbook for surfing the net for her typical sights, webkinz, littlest pet shop, disney, compass learning and for homework/school purposes, and watching movies. The web cam isn't a feature she needs at the moment. The display on her netbook is bright with good color. And the most important part...Darrin no longer has to "share" his laptop. :D

We get around this by sharing the dvd drive on one of our other computers on the network. We can install games, software or watch movies on it.

well, since I inquired, and hesitated on buying one of these, the prices for the Asus have gone up :( It seams, since the battery life for the Asus netbooks is so good, they can run up the price a bit.

I'm looking at these 2 now.

other brands are cheaper, but worse battery life.

Oh bummer you didn't catch it at the lower price. :(

Get up off that wallet and buy the thing already! What are you waiting for? :D

I really wanted a Asus, but the model I wanted isn't in stock anywhere

so I went with MSI http://www.jr.com/msi-microstar/pe/MSR_U100422CA/

In some reviews, it topped out Asus, but Asus has longer battery life. We'll see.

Thanks Dixie, I'll be bugging you later with some other questions :D
