I've often wondered what it must have been like to be alive during the time that MLK Jr was. I've heard some of his speeches, and to say he was passionate is certainly an understatement. I really think it's important to remember what he, and others like him did. It's a part of history and it's important to celebrate it and keep moving forward.

With that in mind, and knowing what a huge part music plays in all this for me, I really encourage folks to check out a few things that I think really capture the spirit of MLK.

The first link, I REALLY REALLY think people should check out. If you've never actually. It's from a totally overlooked 80's one-off CD. A collaboration between Jon Anderson (from Yes), Chrissy Hynde (from the Pretenders) and Vangelis (The Chariot's Of Fire guy).

Part 3 applies to today. It's a 3 part song. First part I don't like. 2nd part is awesome. I'd say listen to both parts. If you don't have the patience, then just go for part 3.

Of course, you can't mention music and MLK without throwing out U2 and "Pride". Though less well known is the preceeding song called MLK which is much more somber and haunting. Here's a link to both being performed at the Amnesty Concert.
