Ok, so I have one fo those friends that likes to buy the $500+ video cards. His blew out on him over the weekend (go figure, he never dusted the thing >_<)

He's RMA'ing it back to EVGA but is dissatisfied with what they are sending him in return.

It'll be one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+106792522+1067942261+50001402&Configurator=&Subcategory=48&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

He's traded it to me for a spare motherboard i had sitting ina cabinet, I'm wicked psyched as i didn't spend anything on the board and really wanted to up from my 7800GT card

I would also opt for the latter for pretty obvious reasons.

What do you mean he never dusted the card? They are sealed in a package, you shouldn't need to dust them for a good six months or so depending on the operating environment.

you can use compressed air to clean out the dust that collects on all the fins. actually i'd be pretty shocked if they replace a 9800gtx with a 260gtx, as the latter has about twice the rendering power, which would be about as surprising as your buddy giving it away for an old junk board, but hey, good luck.

nonono, he has a 8800GTX that died and I suspect its because he modded a super compact case to accept it. (Don't know how he crammed that sucker into the box but he did) and the operating environemnt is the dorm rooms which are dusty as hell.

He isn't sure which one they will be sending as a replacement, i can only hope, but either way a free upgrade is a free upgrade

I had a pait of 9800 GTX SSC's and I like them. Of course I upgraded to a pair of 280's within 90 days, due to EVGA's step up program

I am surprised they are going to do anything with a card that old. Just goes to show how awesome EVGA is. :)

Indeed. I recently bought a 9800GT from EVGA. It runs a bit hot (between 60-70 C) but it has performed well with the F.E.A.R. 2 demo and Crysis.

My 280's run about that hot as well. Need to get back into more research and get those tec coolers for my cards, to keep em nice n cool.

They work great in the winter to heat my computer room. Have to open a window most nights hehe
