12 years of development is WAY too long to develop a game. Can you imagine how different the technology is today compared to back then? We're talking Nintendo 64 compared to PS3. Sheesh.

This is seriously messed up. I'm not even joking here. They put on people for 12 years and THIS is how they reward us?! I'm sorry, but I am a die hard Duke Nukem fan...I even still have the original Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II on diskettes, box and all. This definitely put a damper on my day.

the game will come out, just not by 3drealms. I can't believe all the dev work would be thrown away. just like prey eventually came out. it was pretty good too, but not great.

First off, I admit I know absolutely nothing about software development. However, I've never EVER understood how exactly someone can spend 12 years and NOT have a finished product to put out.
Yes, I totally get that the game someone was creating 10 years ago simply could not be released today and therefore would have to be a whole new game. But seriously... how can a company say they are working on a product for 12 years and still not have it completed?

It is a shame. Duke still ranks as one of my favorite games ever. I'm STILL waiting on a game to come out that has that really cool mine thing that you could stick on a wall and it had the laser beam thing and when someome walked by it would break the beam and set the mine off.

max payne 3 is being done by another studio. same I think for prey 2. I think that DNF is the only game being affected. Some of the other port projects are also getting done by other studios.

yeah, its a strange story. original rights were sold years ago I think to god games, a 400k advance to apogee. no other money for DNF. 3DR has 20m invested in DNF.

I did not understand the hype, so I picked up the original duke nukem along with the high res textures and sound packs. It still does not look great, but wow, the original is really a lot to live up to. Obviously sam is a ripoff of duke.

The innovations (for the time) would be: very interactive worlds, secrets, weapons, gear, mulitple paths, etc. Is a very tall order to create a modern game that does the same as a 15 year old game.

Yes but from what I've seen, it's not as cartoony as Sam 2.

their "war game" was cancelled. they are currently working on sam3 and some other unannounced game.
