Brilliant. I hope it works out for them. It's definitely a niche device until it can mimic all of the applications available for a laptop/Mac/PC.

New feminine hygiene product?:P

I like the idea of replacing textbooks with e-readers. Save money and the enviornment.
Does the iPad replace the notebook? I think not.
Netbook? Maybe.
Kindle? Most likely, unless Kindle steps up its game.

It looks kinda funny, like a giant iPod Touch.

Remember that a netbook is just a notebook with a smaller screen and (somewhat) slower hardware.

uh, there are a lot of issues with it. of course since it is apple probably all the fanbouis will rush and buy one. but the thing is not really a kindle. and that is good and bad.

#1: apple will probably put a chokehold on the publishing market like they have done to the music industry. That is good or bad. Maybe good for the consumer, maybe not so much if you are a publisher or if you like to browse in a bookstore. Nowadays there is no such thing as a record store any more.

#2: it is a powered device. battery life is going to be an issue no matter what. kindle and other similar types of readers use e-ink, which only requires power when the page is being changed. It does not include a light source and should not use any power when reading a page. If you have ever had to replace a battery in an apple anything, well, that experience sucks.

#3: it is not really a computer. it can't multitask. no doubt it will do what it does every well, but in other areas, maybe not.

#4: netbooks are not really laptops. sure, you can say they are, but if you have ever used one, then they are something you would give your kid, or use if there was nothing else nearby. but maybe that is because I have big hands.

Kindle will have to do a whole lot better and this is still at its infant stage. This is just a small taste of what is yet to come. 10 hours charge and no contract and for the price compare to Kindle is what interest me but over all this is not to say to go out and buy it but to wait for more that are yet to come.

I read a lot and this can be useful for me plus more but again I am looking forward to seeing more new development by other companies and what the future will bring.

It's only a matter of time until someone releases something similar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmIgNfp-MdI), and cheaper.

And when someone comes out with a product that supports open source development (http://www.androidcentral.com/msi-reportedly-has-500-tablet-android-way), few people will care for Apple's expensive and restrictive product.

MSI Notebook featuring an Intel Pentium DualcoreT4300 Processor with 4GB memory and Blu-ray Rom $449

a closeout item, but probably other similar products only somewhat more.
