Is there a way to tell what speed memory I have without opening up my case? 2100/2700/3000...

Sisoft Sandra can tell you if you have it installed.

You can see what speed it is running at in your bios but that does not guarantee what it is. If your fsb is running at 100MHz then you have PC100 if it is SDR or PC1600 if it is DDR. If it is running at 133MHz then if might be PC133SDR or PC2100 DDR.

Well I have 256MB of 2100 RAM. Time to add another 256MB chip. I see Newegg has some Kingston chips for $30. Has anyone seen it any cheaper?

You can get the generic noname stuff cheaper ($21), But I would stick with the Kingston. That's a good price on it too.

Hmm...I could get 512MB of 2700 Crucial for $62 shipped. Very tempting...

You made me go back and dig at S! to see what you ended up with. :P

After a couple of weeks of researching, I am upgrading my PC from the one in my profile. The order was placed at NewEgg:
AMD XP 2000+ - $128
Volcano 6cu+ 7000RPM Heatsink/Fan - $12
350W Power Supply - $28
Cooler Master Thermal Compound - $4
Soltek 75DRV5 KT333 Motherboard - $88
Total (w/shipping) - $276
Also picked up some 256MB 2100DDR from Best Buy - $35 (After rebate)
So beware, this weekend I may be fragging your asses with even more skill
Thanks to everyone for helping me out with their suggestions.

Here's the features on the Soltek 75DRV5
VIA VT8367(KT333) + VT8233A chipset
FSB 333/266/200 MHz
Supports DDR SDRAM @ 333/266/200 MHz
Supports Ultra ATA 133/100/66
Multiplier Setting
BIOS FSB Setting
AGP, DIMM Voltage Setting
RedStorm Overclocking
SmartDoc. Anti-Burning Shield
SCR (Smart Card Reader) Interface
Optimized for all Socket-A processors

SAL is this the right mobo? If so, Yes I would upgrade to the faster & larger RAM.

Wow you must have been bored Shogun :D. Yep that's the rig I have...and yes that 7000RPM fan is annoying as hell. It is going to be replaced soon. That 512 stick of 2700 looks good.

salv i made the mistake spending 60 dollars for two 7000 rpm fans for my dual rig. my wife got pissed because she said it sounded like an airport terminal. i wasted the money on those fans as i took them out and they ly in a draw full of my pc junk.
