Now that it is certain that the US, UK, and Spain will attack Iraq in 3-4 days, the stock market is booming again. :hmmm: :WTF:

I was a stock broker from 87-94 and the one thing I learned about the market is it does not like uncertainty! The same thing happened in 91 with the gulf war. The market was down, down, down until the bombs started falling. Then it took off like a rocket.

Did you notice oil futures were down also?

Yes, more good news.

This trend is entirely based on the impression that the war will be very quick and decisive. I hope it is.

Saddam said today "American soldiers will find and Iraqi soldier behind every tree or rock."

I would be looking for a better place to hide than that! :wootrock:

Also, all the pics I've seen of Iraq suggest there are not many trees or rocks, just a bunch of sand.

I just hope Bush and Blair were wrong with their thoughts of iraq having chemical and biological weapons

It's good news about the stock market, I just hope they finish it this time so we don't have to go through this again.

Don't start celebrating yet. Even if this war is quick, it doesn't mean that investors confidence will magically return. And we can still expect oil prices to be high, especially if a majority of it is coming from Arab countries who don't support this war. War does not equal good economy. Investors confiedence does. That is why our economy went up with the World Wars, but taking out Saddam? I'm not so sure.

War means increased spending by the government, which means more businesses with increased accounts receivables. War means less uncertainty, which means more stability in the markets. Oil prices won't necessarily be high because America buys the most oil and if they don't sell it to us they don't sell it, which hurts their GDP and they aren't going to that, for Allah or Saddam or anyone in between.

I 've continually expained this point. If anyone still doubts this, go to your local community college, look up "Economics 101", and sign up for it.
