http://www.ecsusa.com/ecsusa/www.ecs.com.tw/download/k7s5a.htm Ok people i started a thread not long ago about a problem i had running my ram frequency at 133Mherts. Now i did a bit of searching on internet and found a site for Bios upgrades for my motherboard. The problem is that i never did this before and i would like to have some advice if it would be good to upgrade. If you go to the the link you'll find a page on bios upgrades for my motherboard wich is a k7s5a.Well i have windows Xp and a Athlon 1800 xp.768 SDram memory. Downloading a unnessery upgrade is useless and failing doing it correctly is too.It is very well explaind how to copie and install so i should manage doing it. But the ting is i'd like to have a second opinion about the options available for downloads. One of the upgrades seem to correspond to my problem but i'm not shure. it is writtenBIOS Type AMI® BIOS Release Date 11/27/2001
Version 01/11/09 File Size 419 K
Download k7s5a011109.exe Flash Utility aminfxxx.exe
Release Note 1. Fixed CMOS failed when awoke from RTC alarm in DOS mode
2. Fixed the "standby" selection of start menu becomes to be inactive action after installing
Windows XP
3. Fixed system hung up when one DDR inserted into DIMM2 and CPU/SDRAM selected
100/133
so number 3 seems like the awnser to my problem but is it?Any help would be appreciated.

Hi FS, you should PM Machine or Slice. I think Tip be able to help too. I'm pretty sure Machine is on the forums right now.
Good Luck, sincerely.

First of all, I'm not that familiar with the SIS chipset boards. What is it doing when it is messing up?

Ok well it just runs my ram at 100Mhert.If i go to the bios and put it to 133 it just wont start windows. That is all it as done to me.it's bugs and wont run at that speed. Not being a pro myself in those technical informations i can't really say much more than what i said already.I was just wondering if it could be Bios upgrade related

There more than likely is a jumper or a dip switch on your mother board that has to be set to 133MHz.

By only changing it in the bios you are overclocking your CPU significantly. You need to change the switch or jumper on your motherboard to 133MHz.

Hum i read my users manual about that cause seomeone told me the same thing. The problem is i have found nothing in the users manual about a jumper for that use.The only thing i found on internet and in my users manual is a clear bios jumper and a other jumper wich was not related to that. But maybe they don't mention it in the user guide.

Ok just opened the box of my computer and all.Took more time then i thought.Well here is what i found.my 256 sdram memory brand is sync max uk.And the other one seems like a no name brand a Nec wich is the 512 one. My jumpers have these features.jumper 1 is keyboard power on selector. For jumper 2 it says you can connect the LED cable to the headercJP2.Jumper 4 says clear cmos memory.i have found no information about the jumper 3 if there is one anyways.

also i have tryd both putting only my ram to 133 and my cpu to only 133 and both at 133.What i realized was that none worked. My cpu is at a 100 and my ram also.Well i'll try and do a bit more searching on that subject.thanks for the help.Maybe my ram brand is the problem but that would be rubbish.

good question but i have no idea.I though that DDr memory was called by 1600 and 2100.i know that both of my chips have written on them pc133.I'm really just starting to look at all these computer components and all related stuff to it.I've been looking thru my computer for a week.I have zero experience in this kind of stuff. So i'll have to deticate more time to computer stuff then actully playing games.

If it says pc133 on it then it is 2100.
PC 1600 is pc100 DDR.

You could try flashing your bios but there is a small chance of frying your board. A small chance. Something just doesn't sound right though. Have you called tech support for your mobo manufacturer yet?
